Vaporware is software that never gets released. Duke Nukem Forever is the quintessential vaporware.
My buddy and occasional guest blogger Jason (TheLisnakFactor) actually pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever in 1997. Back then, the two of us were broke kids who learned that if we requested Annual Reports from Electronics Boutique, they came with $5.00 gift certificates to the store… Those were the days.
But I digress.
Duke is a gun-toting, whore-mongering, alien killing sociopath. The game is essentially Contra + scantily clad women, played from a first person perspective. I’ve never been a fan of the series, but it’s been interesting following the endless trials and tribulations of the game’s development.
Here’s a look at Duke’s new trailer.
Duke Nukem Forever has been in and out of production for over a decade, and it’s allegedly arriving in stores on May 3, 2011, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
If you care to read more, Wired published a piece detailing the history of this fabled game.
Do our preorders still stand? And I need another copy of that annual report if they do…
