Rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy fame had a rock/ rap side project called the Fine Arts Militia (great name).
Today I had the Lightning in a Bottle blues documentary/ concert on while I was working. It was recorded back in 2003 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. The movie is very good. The music is incredible, and the anecdotes from the musicians are wonderful. Each song has something special going on in it, but only one made me stop working completely; mostly because I wasn’t expecting it.
With that in mind, I give you Chuck D & Fine Arts Militia’s interpretation of John Lee Hooker’s blues classic, Boom Boom.
Chuck D’s vocals are powerful, but pay attention to the badass musicianship. Towards the second half of the song the organ is on fire.
I love genre mashing.
