Hanlon’s Razor reads:

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

I’ve got nothing to add to that bit of wisdom.

  1. Hanlon’s Razor sounds to me to be a logical extension of the popularly quoted form of Occam’s Razor, that the simplest explanation is usually the truest. It’s far easier to be stupid than evil.
